OpenAI is poised to make its biggest move yet with the acquisition of io, a startup founded by former Apple designer Jonathan Ive, for $6.5 billion. This landmark deal, pending regulatory approval and expected to close in summer 2025, could usher in a new era of AI integration into daily life.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman shared his vision with employees, stating that this acquisition presents "the opportunity to do the biggest thing we have ever done as a company." He believes it could lead to a trillion-dollar valuation increase for OpenAI.
