Romanian Presidential Candidate Calls for Protests Without Ukraine-Like 'Massacre' - RT Hae otsikkoa

May 25, 2025 George Simion states citizens have the right to peacefully defend their vote amid fraud accusations.

Romanian presidential candidate George Simion has urged his supporters to participate in peaceful protests against what he claims were fraudulent elections, warning that the country narrowly avoided a "massacre" orchestrated by "demonic plans" allegedly devised by his Western-backed political opponents.

The conservative EU critic lost last Sunday's run-off election to Brussels-backed Bucharest Mayor Nicusor Dan by a majority. Simion has disputed the result, alleging "external interference from state and non-state actors," but his appeal was rejected by Romania's Constitutional Court.

In a video message live-streamed on social media on Friday evening, the leader of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) described Dan as a "French puppet" who won the election through manipulation and intimidation, having "mobilized the entire Soros network, all NGOs" to undermine his campaign.

"This battle is not lost," Simion told his supporters, asserting that "Romanians' right to the streets" must be exercised – while emphasizing that the protests must remain peaceful.

"Make it peaceful. I say this every time, because they want to put us in jail," he said, claiming that his political opponents attempted to provoke violence to justify suppressing the opposition.

"That's what they wanted on election night," he stated, alleging that the opposing camp planned to manipulate his supporters and lead to a "massacre" similar to Ukraine's 2014 coup – and that they allegedly had "some people who participated in Kiev's Euromaidan."
